LiDAR

Airborne LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) is an optical remote sensing technology that allows for cost-effective broad-scale collection of highly detailed and accurate terrain surface data. Watershed Sciences deploys the most advanced LiDAR systems on the market, and holds a reputation for delivering LiDAR data with high pulse rates, multiple returns per pulse, and superior absolute accuracies.

Our strategy is to build quality control into the entire process through regular sensor calibration, detailed mission planning, thorough ground control, and a rigorous assessment of laser accuracy. In addition, we incorporate multiple inspections of our data to ensure the most representative model for our clients. Our processed LiDAR data can support the generation of highly accurate to 1-meter digital elevation models (DEM) for the bare earth as well as intermediate surfaces.

LiDAR is a powerful tool with broad applications in resource inventory and characterization, engineering design, restoration, resource modeling, and hazard mapping. We have acquired LiDAR data on some of the most rugged terrain in the Pacific Northwest and many other areas spanning the United States including Mount Rainier and the Grand Canyon and can customize acquisitions, processing, and products to match our clients’ needs for the data.
