Forestry
WSI's extensive remote sensing experience in the Pacific Northwest includes additional data processing services and products useful toward biomass and carbon estimation and to provide the framework for broader spatial analysis including timber inventory, wildlife habitat modeling and assessments of forest health. Our work involves derivation of LiDAR-derived vegetation metrics using custom tools (WSI's proprietary LFEx) to stratify the data, data reduction to a suite of informative vegetation metrics, tree approximate segmentation, individual tree point generation, and assignment of structural attributes to polygons. Spectral data is used to further inform the model for tree species along with known allometric relationships between LiDAR-derived crown width, tree height and DBH, DBH-related biomass estimates.
