Orthoimagery - Worth a Thousand Words
WSI recently purchased the new Microsoft UltraCam Eagle large format digital camera system. With this purchase, WSI's camera is one of two in North America. The digital, high-resolution 4-band system will allow us to collect more imagery in less time. Digital imagery can be co-acquired with LiDAR or flown as a stand-alone sensor. Orthorectified imagery has an extremely broad range of applications including habitat assessment, change detection, engineering design, or as a GIS basemap. In many cases, the imagery is used to augment the LiDAR for direct feature recognition or as additional bands for automatic feature extraction. The co-registration of the digital imagery with high resolution LiDAR provides for the creation of detailed 3D visualization models.
